Isolation

Isolation was a surprisingly troubled project. It was my first time using Godot, obviously this lead to a lot of difficulty in creating such a project.

The only thing that stayed consistent was my desire to achieve a retro aesthetic. The first internal name I saved this project under was "retro_fps", which due to it being the project name, and me not changing this for a while, it cemented the name as such for a while.
I first created a 3D movement system, placing a floor and some cubes, and jumping around, it was quite satisfying to work on.

As of late I've been playing a lot of Sonic games. I would probably like to try and create a boost inspired platformer demo. I could end up creating something akin to the original "retro_fps" style movement system :p

Story Outline:

You’re on a long car journey down an empty road, there’s nothing much out here, the clock ticks by fast as you drive seemingly endlessly. You drive over a small animal of some kind at some point and you freak out, you get back in the car and tell yourself it isn’t your fault, the car journey continues uninterrupted after this. This is how the player ends up with the flashlight in the front seat which is taken with you before you leave for the beginning of the game.

Chapter 1: Snowcast Village

Your car breaks down and you have to find somewhere to stay for the night, you explore a snowy expanse cast over by a strong fog, with wild winds whipping at you as they kick up snow into the opaque sky. You only have a small flashlight with you, and the battery runs out by the time you find the place to stay, i.e. you have to then find something to make light while you look for somewhere warm in the village, this part will have you scavenge buildings for various items.
The goal will be to obtain [Sleeping Blanket] or [Bed], [Lighter] or [Batteries], [Fire] or [Heater], depending on what items you find, you may need certain other ones. During the exploration, as the flashlight dies, you’ll have to explore the rest of the village in the dark, this is a good place for small scares like mannequins, dark shadows and moving figures.

Chapter 2: Lonely Train Station

The fog has cleared up more now. You have to wait for your train to get to your destination. Different gameplay style, something more stationary, perhaps something sort of FNAF-like where you have to micromanage things, restarting generators to keep lights on or something? Distant train sounds Perhaps something to do with finding fuel for your car, or trying to solve the issue with the car?

As is obvious, I didn't go too far ahead of myself, and as such, when I hit the roadblock of level creation requiring the ability to use Blender.
